About us & mission

Under the Willow is a group of friends that came together to make things.

Our team spans experiences across community building, research, coding apps & websites, video game design and development, writing, film making, and art.

We want to use our skills to create little worlds that help people feel more connected to themselves, each other, and the places around them.

We chose the name Under the Willow because that's how we want the things we build to make you feel:

Like you're laying down underneath a willow tree looking up, encircled by drooping leaves. It's cozy. Maybe you feel a sense of awe. You're present in the space and you feel playful and curious. Maybe you see a bird and turn towards your friend to say "look at that!" or you laugh quietly to yourself because you feel alive.

When you get up to leave, you feel happy - it was a good use of your time and you feel more resourced to do the things you care about.

How?

To accomplish this, we're intentional about what we choose to make, who we work with, and how we make things. We use prosocial design principles and think hard about how to build things that help people flourish online and offline. We're also committed to staying independent so that we can stay in a position to lead with these values.

At our best, we want what we build to feel deeply human and open up people's worlds because it's so cool that humans can do that for each other. We'll do our best to have the things we make be an extension of our care and person-hood - a way to put a little bit of our own humanness into the world - and we hope you put a little bit of yours into the world too.
